My professional training and experience as a clinical psychologist means that I bring knowledge of psychological theory and latest research to help understand your situation and I am trained to apply this knowledge to help with a wide range of emotional difficulties. I became a fully qualified Systemic Family Therapist in 2003 which means that I offer skills in helping family members talk together in a way that can create a new understanding of the situation and offer new ways forward. I am warm, non-judgmental and respectful and I hope to make sense of things in a way that helps you to value and build on your own skills and ideas and to make the most of your important relationships. What is family therapy ? |
I provide an initial brief free telephone conversation to decide if I am the best person to help. In my work with young people, parents often wish to meet with me on their own first. I would begin the work with an assessment to understand the situation and how it has arisen and the person's and family's resources and ideas about what might help. If we think that ongoing therapy sessions would be helpful then the number would be agreed with you. In child and family work, sometimes work would be done directly with the young person on their own, but can be more effective when parents join sessions, particularly with younger children. Sometimes work with parents or carers on their own may be the best way forward. I review the work regularly to make sure we are working towards your goals and that the sessions are worthwhile for you.
